VITILIGO
Moira hello! Vitiligo can cause hearing loss, which is estimated to affect 12–38% of people with the condition. This is because vitiligo can destroy auditory melanocytes, which are cells in the inner… read more
I’m wondering what other conditions people got after being diagnosed with vitiligo. Or before for that matter. I’ve seen some discussions of psoriasis. What other conditions did you get? Did they come before or after the vitiligo?
I had lichen sclerosis, then vitilago then raynauds. The vitilago got worse with pregnancy both times, and it's pretty much spread everywhere now. Distant memories of my maternal grandmother having… read more
At a recent visit to my eye doctor, I was told my pigment is separating inside of my eyes reducing the amount of light reaching the receptors in my eys. Which is scary enough but I have noticed a significant reduction in hearing. Is there any research that links Vitiligo to hearing loss?
My Vitiligo on my skin is mild, partly due to my natural skin color. The thought of having poor hearing and vision is scary.
Yes, hearing loss can happen with vitiligo but I don’t think it’s common. I have had vitiligo for 50 years and many of my relatives had vitiligo. Did not affect our hearing. I do have the super… read more

My 14 year old daughter has vitiligo and was diagnosed when she was 5 after years of me fighting drs to take a spot they claimed to be a scar as something else. She has had declining vision over the years but last year she did get stronger glasses and this year new dr accused me of neglecting her eye health and stated that the damage to the left eye is so severe that she will lose all vision within the next year maybe two. The dr stated that she should have had eye patch to strengthen her eye… read more

I don’t have any evidence of vitiligo on my scalp yet but certainly don’t want to encourage it. Basically, I don’t feel very cute in my natural boring hair color. Could I just ask my hair dresser to keep the foils far from scalp?
Stacey3 I have no qualifications to advice you to permanently dye, highlight or lowlight your blonde hair if you have no evidence of vitiligo in your scalp. I have read articles from medical licensed… read more
I was told this by two doctors that Vitiligo is a fungus -I was also told by a dermatologist that is also associated and related to Hypo Thyroidism -Does anyone else have any information on this ? Are both Autoimmune issues too? Any feedback greatly appreciated
Kindly TL
While it may not be a fungus, I have experiened a higher susceptibility to fungal infections on my skin. It makes me wonder if skin biome composition interacts with fungus differently

I’m 39 and my vitiligo started back in may of this year. It’s on both of my eyebrows and I noticed my vision is getting worse and worse with a lot of sensitivity to light.
I feel like I read an article months ago on vitiligo and vision. If I can find it I’ll share it.
Yes!! I also often got mistaken for being way younger than I actually was BEFORE vitiligo
It is discouraging, I was proud of how young I used to look
My eyebrows are almost all gray, along with… read more
If anyone would be so kind as to answer this question. I know everyone’s spots are different and unique, but was just getting a sense of an idea on what’s going on with my hands. Even though this can be different for everyone, this helps me get a bit calm in understanding how it happened to others, plus I LOVE hearing everyone’s story about how it started with vitiligo. This helps me not feel so alone with this next chapter of vitiligo.
I pray this doesn’t seem intrusive to anyone. So if… read more
