Vitiligo and Hypothyroidism are both autoimmune diseases and with Rheumatoid Arthritis are all related not a fungus so you can suffer from more than one Autoimmune diseases at the same time .

Vitiligo is NOT a fungus!! oh my goodness, a doctor told you that? smh..it's an autoimmune condition. I understand that doctors don't always know everything. In all the 26 years I have had vitiligo, I never heard the association of vitiligo with a fungus.

Yes, thyroid and vitiligo are often found together. I was not ever told anything about vitiligo when I was diagnosed at age 13, I am now 51. Any knowledge about it is from researching it myself. It is a auto immune disorder. In 2004 a tumor in my thyroid was discovered by my physician, and even the contrast thyroid scan showed it to be a cancerous mass. During surgery my E.N.T physician checked it under microscope and sent to pathology and luckily it was not cancer. If a person has vitiligo, there's a chance that they do have or will develop oth3r autoimmune disorders/diseases. I have multiple myself and did not know until about 1-2 years ago that all were related or go hand in hand because of the autoimmune disease. Best advice is to research, research, research! Self educate! Not 1 physician or specialist during my entire life has ever said a word or connected my issues, probably because of happening at all different times throughout my life. Vitiligo, Ankylosis Spondylitis, thyroid disease, psoriasis just to name a few. They are all autoimmune diseases.

This might clear up some confusion. An autoimmune condition causes vitiligo, but a fungal infection causes tinea versicolor. Tinea versicolor can be a nuisance and make you feel insecure. Luckily, the discoloration it creates on your skin is highly treatable with over-the-counter antifungal creams or shampoos. Looks very similar to vitiligo. My daughter had it and it cleared up with the use of head and shoulders shampoo. Initially, I thought it was vitiligo. Lucky for her, it wasn't.

Here is an article we did on the link between thyroid conditions and vitiligo with Dr. Amit Pandya. https://www.myvitiligoteam.com/resources/vitili.... Also to confirm - vitiligo is not a fungus. It is an autoimmune condition which you can learn more about here https://www.myvitiligoteam.com/resources/your-g....
