I have had vitiligo for approximately 8 years. I am 63. In 2020 I was doing xtrac and light therapy. It brought back about 80% of my pigment. Then covid shut it all down. I am worse now then I was then.
My Dr submitted to my insurance to get a large light unit for home use and my insurance covered it. Then the following year I tried to get Opzelura. My insurance company initially refused it but again the Drs office submitted some forms and then they covered it 100%. Previous Drs I saw never even tried or recommended a home unit. Make sure to see a Dr that will try this for you.
I heard light treatment is good. My insurance denied it.
I continue to use light treatment and only use Opzelura only on my hands and a few small spots on my face. The light treatment helped everywhere except my hands and face.
I am sorry your insurance company denied UV light treatment. My home unit has been very successful for me with my 50 year vitiligo but it hasn’t helped my hands and a few spots on my face. My insurance initially refused Opzelura but my dermatologist submitted again and they approved it fully for 9 months. I have been using it on my hands and face for 2 months but no change yet. Not sure where you live but some cities have trials that provide different treatments.
