Vitiligo itself does not cause skin thinning — not on the body in general, and not in the vaginal area either. The white patches it creates are due to a loss of pigment (color), not a change in skin thickness or texture.

In most cases, affected skin feels exactly the same as unaffected skin. However, it's worth knowing that some treatments for vaginal vitiligo — particularly high-dose topical corticosteroids (steroid creams) — can cause skin thinning as a side effect. This is why gentler treatment options are usually recommended for the genital area, given how sensitive that skin already is.

Always discuss treatment options with a dermatologist to find the safest approach for that area.
